Help required please, from all you suspension experts (Roly?) out there. The antiquated lever arm shocks are to be replaced with conventional upright shock absorbers, mounted on plates under the leaf spring u-bolts and at the top to a new crossmember across the chassis rails, as in say a later Ford - Escort for example? The million dollar question is what angle should they sit at for all round use? i.e. some vans/cars have them upright, some have one in front, one behind the axle and some at various angles. Whats the formula?

Look at an Escort van, I think they have a factory x/member for the top shock mounts so just a suggestion since you are using an Escort axle the angles would be done for you

We know what youre saying bomber... Escort vans are vertical, for weight carrying, but the anglia van isnt a work horse any more, so the real question is what is the best angle for driveability but when we need to load it full of camping gear, will carry the load ok.
Their must be some kind of guidelines for what angle is best for what
