WELL NOT A LOT HAPPENING AT THE MOMENT STILL WAITING ON THE MACHINE SHOP FOR THE NEW ADAPETRS AND THE FLEXI PLATE TO BE DONE. BUT I HAVE FOUND OUT WHAT EXHAUST WRAP IS FOR IT'S FOR COVERING OVER CRACKED MANIFOLDS. GOT ANOTHER SET OFF FILLIS SO THATS NOW THATS BEEN RECTIFIED WONDERED WHY THE WINGS MOVED A BIT ON BUMPY ROADS, THIS IS WHY SO WELDED UP NOW. THE ENGINE BAY LOOKS AWFUL SO A RATTLE CAN OF BLACK HAS MADE IT BEARABLE FOR NOW ALSO THE FRONT PANEL THATS MADE OF WOOD AND LOOKS AWFUL HAS NOW HAD A BLUE PETER JOB ON IT, A BIT OF REFLECTIVE MULTI COLOURED IRRIDIUM TYPE OF STICKY BACKED PLASTIC STUCK TO IT TO TART IT UP. NOT A GOOD PIC I KNOW. ANYWAY THIS WILL GET STRIPPED NEXT WINTER FOR A FULL REBUILD.

That heat wrap is dangerous stuff - I've heard (and seen) far too many stories the same as yours with cracked manifolds... Loks likely you're slowly getting through it though

We do not allow customers to use wrap at work, as it has a tendancy to cause gaskets to over heat and fail or as you have seen manifolds to crack. The heat has to go somewhere, it is OK to wrap small areas to protect something from the exhaust but not the whole thing. Can you run it without or maybe if needs a heat shield

The down pipes a bit close to the bulk head....

Roland are the manifolds on your work vehicles cast?
I've run it for three years on the steel manifold of the metro and not had any problems at all even when its been on full chat all day. It certainly lowers the under bonnet temperature tho....

Yep they are cast and people do lag them and have no problems then we have other cases when we will buckle turbo flanges, turbos will break studs because of expansion, manifold and turbo gaskets will fail and manifolds will crack. Yep it will lower under bonnet temps but what tends to happen is that the heat will track towards each end of the lagging and build up as it goes. If the airflow is right etc you may well get away with it. Jimmy could have other issues like timing being to retarded or advanced wich will increase manifold temps. We state that warranty is void if lagging is used as we cannot control all situations. We do use it on marine applications but they are all water cooled turbos and in many cases also the manifold is cooled. In most application we supply heat shields with and air gap between the exhaust and shield. bla bla bla sorry ill stop now .

Seen a lot of bikes run heatwrap with no problems at all, think the gaskett thing only occurs with Diesels as they tend to run hotter... Allthough, i do know the heatwrap gathers water, and can contribute to cracking cast..
Someone may have quite easily wrapped yours to hide an existing crack as i've also seen it used to hide shit weld assemblies

Basically dont use it unless you have to and keep it to a minimum. If you can use a shield instead do so. I have never seen a production car with wrap but have seen plenty with heat shields. sorry
