OK so people tell me I've got enough going on.Others tell me I've got tooooo many projects,And the third lot of people tell me tooo much time on my hands.Well I've purchased a 1954 100e for my lads 17 birthday. He is just coming upto 15 so time is not an issue really.Plans for it are a 16v K series engine and type9 sierra box,two tone paint scheme yet to be confirmed.I've managed to get hold of some wolf race slots and also a flush fit fuel filler.Am sure plans will change along the way and maybe there will be the odd trick bit here and there. So enough of the waffle and here are some Pics of the car in its raw state...
So here is a few pics from yesterday's achievements. The lower front panel was corroded and broken at one end. These panels are not available so a new one was constructed, the ends where made good first and the new panel will be welded on once the O/S chassis leg/inner wing has been repaired. There isn't a great deal of rot in the car but quite a bit of peppering so in these area's we will be chopping it out and making repair peices...
We where toying with something along these lines with a lotus cortina type white stripe....and maybe a white roof...
MARK is there anyway you could try something like that for us?
I've got two updates today got a little bit behind with being away at the weekend and lack of sleep etc.....
So this first one shows the repair on the backside of the front panel on the passenger side.Nothing major just a strengthening piece ready for the radiator really....
Ok so here is the second update today. As you can see the inner wing is only peppered but has a hole in it for the battery I beleive(maybe wrong) and this hole doesn't need to be there any more seeing as the battery will be going in the boot. Also during its life the chassis leg has had a patch welded to the top of it in a fasion so thats been removed and a new one made.Whilst the top was off the steel tubes for the anti roll bar bolts have been tacked into place so that they dont fall in the leg if the bolts ever need to come out....
You can see in this one the poor repair to the chassis leg..
Hopefully before I go away on Thursday afternoon the other plate should be in place...
Keep Motivated....
So after having the weekend away,we managed to get the drivers side inner wing patch panel made and into place, also welded the front lower panel into place and another small strengthening piece on the back of the drives side front panel..
Next job is to address the escort strut top mounts that have been put in, although these have been done to a standard i want to just beef them up a little and make them a little neater, finicky I know but thats me....
Been a while since anything had been done on the 100E but managed to get some more bits done yesterday. Managed to seam weld up the passenger side strut top mount and also welded in some small angled pieces to give it some extra strength.
Quiet Times.....
So work has dropped off again(Bloody govermenat and recesion)
and the lads need to keep busy, so I've had Chris beavering away on the 100E. This week he has chopped off the N/S sill and made a repair patch for the rear quarter panel.I wanted it to keep its origanal line and not just be filled over.He has also repaired all of the inner sill which wasn't too bad but I don't want to be having to get the welder out once the car is back on the road.
Tin Worm
So its been a while since we have done anything on the 100E but we have finally managed to get the passenger side inner/outer sill areas all done.
Cheers Marcus
So now its on with the drivers side.First job was to cut the door step off that had been repaired in the past but not very well, also quite abit needed doing to the inner sill as to make sure the welder wont be going any where near the car for a good few years to come....
Coming along Nicely...
So here is the drivers door step welded into place and also the outer sill.
We then made a repair patch for the lower part of the rear quarter like on the passenger side again with its seam in the right place to look original.
The sill end has also had a patch fabricated and welded into place.
So just a re-cap.We have welded up the strut tops, inner and outer sill on the passenger side. The inner, outer and door step on the drivers side. Front panel and grill surround.Next its move onto the C post-rear quarter area where there is alot of bondo to be removed and find what's lurking beneath it.....
O Dear, O Dear...
So I put me wire wheel in the grinder and started eating away at the caty that had been lovingly applied to the N/S and O/S rear quarter panel/C post area, and yes we found a couple of holes...
So we kept on digging to find one side has been patched (partially) and the other side has just been gobbed up.GREAT..
But not to worry we will have to be making up an adapter plate for the passenger side anyway to accommodate the flush fitting fuel cap that is being fitted, So the panel will now incorporate the lower part of the C post aswell....
Cheers Marcus
