Hi everyone, here is my build thread for the tot rod. Finally it's been Friday and I've got my Whittaker fairground car. Dad picked it up yesterday from Norfolk, as well as a ride on mower to use in the project. Here's some of my pictures of the tot rod. First we took off the mower deck. this morning I did a test drive on the mower to see how it goes. Everything is ok so soon we are going to take it to bits to get the engine, gear box and axle. I'm gonna do another update soon. Bye for now, William

William, William, William.... What a lucky lad. I don't think mum would be impressed with your decision to work in your school uniform. But hey if you don't tell her, we wont tell her.. How did the mower run and what sort of drive does it have? Is it just forward and reverse? or does it have more than one forward gear? Keep the updates coming, cheers Marcus

Hi everyone, here is more of my build thread. Just showing you here what we have done so far. We've taken off the body from the chassis and taken out the engine and axle of the lawn mower. There was a big pile of rust on the floor once we took the body off the chassis. We won't be using the chassis because it's old and heavy and in bad condition. Dads going to help me make a new chassis. That's all for now, I'll tell you more next time. From William.

Hi again and here is some more from my build thread. Today after school we got the engine and back axle split from the law mower chassis and put them in the boot of the car to check for space. As you can see they will fit ok. The wheels on the car are 26.5 inches apart to the middle (track dad says) and the axle is 26 wide. A Perfect fit once we get some hubs made for our new wheels. We will put a clutch for a go kart on the shaft which turns under the engine and drive it with a belt or cogs to the shaft on the axle. Attachments:

Hi Will thanks for the update, the engine/axle seem like a good package. Do you normally measure in imperial or do you usually use metric???
Also I would recommend a go kart chain and sprockets, they are readily available and the sprockets come in lots of sizes. This should help you a little with your final drive and make it quite easy to alter the car for acceleration or top speed...
Keep up the good work.
Cheers Marcus

Great work lads, keep it up. The man who vapour blasted some parts for me who Charlie put me on to, 'Les Wylde' who I actually knew from 40 odd years ago used to own 'Wyldes' on Roundahay Road in Harehills Leeds, this was a specialist motorcycle shop, dealing in trail ans trials bikes such as 'Bultaco Montesa and Ossa' but upstairs they were main dealers for 'Zip Karts', he is in Sherburn in Elmete and I have seen his 'hoard', I feel sure he will have some parts and any advice you may need, i have his number
