Just thought id make up a tutorial for hosting photos and pictures using a free Photobucket account. Hopefully this should get you start to finish in the simplest way i can tell you. You can make this a lot more complicated as you get used to Photobucket in creating albums a separate folders but this is just the basics. I'll start off with creating an account.
CREATING A PHOTOBUCKET ACCOUNT
start by going to www.photobucket.com and clicking the "sign up" button towards the top right hand side of the screen
fill in all the required fields of info and click "sign me up!"
This is where photobucket will try and sell you the Pro account where you get more features and unlimited bandwidth but most wouldnt use over what the free account will give you. click "no thanks" just under the big green button
Next, it will ask you to fill in some info, just ignore it apart from the privacy settings field, click "private" as this just stops other from rummaging through your account... who knows what you might have in there
then click save
at this point, close the page and i'll do the next bit as if you were coming at the page on another day.
Uploading Photos
Click the log in button at the top right, if you click the check box "remember me" it will save you logging in every time you want to use the site. Enter your details then then click "log in" in the blue box
Now click "Upload Now" at the top
This screen will be displayed and you need to click "Select photos and videos"
Scan through the files on your computer and select the photos you want to upload (hold the Control/Ctrl button down on your keyboard to select more than one)
Then click open
This is the upload screen, this is what you will see whilst photobucket uploads your photos and mill most likely have so crap advert for something you dont need with a stupid sound track that will make you jump.
Afterwards, Upload complete will be displayed and click "save and continue to my album"
Now, the contents of the album will be displayed, move your cursor over a picture and a drop down menu will appear, the bottom box will have an "IMG" code in it, this is what you want for posting photos on most foums. the other links there are usefull for other things (emails and sending a direct link to the picture to someone)
clicking the IMG code (not the bit that says IMG code... but the bit to the right of it... the actual code) it will quickly change yellow and display the word "copied" then fade back to white and display the code again. the code is now stored in your clipboard (the memory bank for any cut/copy/paste function)
In your reply on your favourite forum (yes... this one) put your cursor over the reply box and right click the mouse, in the drop down menu, click "Paste", this should display the same IMG code that was showing on Photobucket under the picture.
you can type around this, above, below, move it up and down the reply box, BUT DONE CHANGE ANYTHING IN THE CODE... or it wont work, the code is a web address for your picture that your web browser can read, change anything in it and its like giving your computer the wrong directions.
I think that should just about get you posting photos on the forum, if there are any questions, please PM me
For any members of Gearjammers who only want to upload a one off photo every now and then, this is also in the Members room with the password to the Gearjammers Photobucket account
