Rain stopped Play..... After being away in Cambridge a couple of weeks ago, I came back to the footings having a fair bit of water in them. It took me about 5 hours to bail them out by hand. But then this last week or so it's been raining cats and dogs and I ended up with about 18" in the footings all the way round.... So it wasn't going to be an easy task to bail out this time, I've been and bought a pump that shifts 225L per minute This is the out let pipe which is a 32mm plastic pipe... I had the pump running for 52 minutes so that's right a wopping 11700L pumped out, the pump didn't get all of it. But am hoping the sun will shine and dry the rest up... Cheers Marcus

Thought it was about time I put an update on here.... How lucky was I that I didn't disturb this clay pipe with the digger. We exposed it as we cut back the soil for a straighter edge.... And here is two lengths of the shuttering finished. I've got half of one run left to do and then dig some more mud out of the centre... The council are still dragging there heels, I've rung them every third day since the deadline (15.7.14) passed and still they've not sorted my planning application yet....

Very professional groundworks there Marcus much like you would see in a commercial development.......and how lucky were you with that drain guess its a surface water drain they always turn up where you would least expect them the 90 degree turn fell just right, perfect layout by your good self some would say. Theres going to be a few metre of concrete in there, lets hope the planners get their finger out, working in local government I know what they are like they seem to get away with meeting any response targets so frustrating. Are you ready to go once the plnning is in place and what time scale do you have?

Cheers Mick, I took these this morning before heading off for work. The right hand section is now levelled and ready for 5" of hard core. Unfortunately once the planning comes through, I've then got to get structural drawings done, to keep the building regs happy... He wants to know if I need a steel structure in the footings, other than the steel rebar mesh that I've already got...Also technical drawings of my steel frame. Believe you me its gonna be well over engineered for the job and no way it'll be coming down any time soon. But thems the rules..... Cheers Marcus

Thought I should give you guys a bit of an up date on the cave building project. Despite being pissed about by the council because there just tooooo slow, its a good job there not on piece work, because they wouldn't have earned a penny. The latest request was for a floor plan and one of the drawings was missing a North arrow.. Here are the pictures they required.... Last week I had Chris on holiday so had to spend my days at the Cleethorpes garage. I made great use of my time and drilled 96 holes for the roof trusses to bolt to the columns.... These plates will be welded to the end of the roof girders.... I hired a Mag drill to make the job easier.... Also all of the digging is finished and the first lot of hard core is being delivered tomorrow... Hopefully the next update will be all of the footings ready to get the concrete poured in.... Cheers Marcus

Here is the first ten tonne of hard core.... Here is the second ten tonne of hard core.... I didn't take a picture of the third delivery. So 30 tonnes later.... I hired a vibrator plate to whack the hard core down. I was struggling to work out how I was going to do the footings part of the base, so in the end I removed the handle and let it go on its own.... Hopefully this time next week it will be filled with 52 cube of concrete. There is 2.4tonne per cube so that's nearly 125 tonne of concrete... Cheers Marcus

Another step closer, Over the last week the damp proof membrane has gone down. This week I've got 36x6m lengths of 20mm re-bar coming and 71x6m lengths of 10mm re-bar coming. The structural engineer says I've got to make three steel beams to go into the footings... All being well they will be done by Thursday morning, ready for the building regs officer to come and check and then Saturday will see the concrete going in....Oh and I still don't have my planning permission.. Cheers Marcus
