You know how one thing leads to another.... The fuel gauge doesn't work, so I thought " I've got five minutes, I'll test everything" Fatal mistake, read on. The sender wire disappears under the trunk floor. Under I go, the sender wire disappears over the top of the tank. Easy: drop the tank. Undo the straps, tank drops, it's bloody full ( can't tell at all with it on because of course the gauge is non functional and I didn't think to dip it before I started). So the tank is on the jack, but I need to drop it more to get to the sender. Find a lawn tractor tyre ( guess what project that came with?) and manhandle the tank onto it. Jack the old girl up under the diff. Now the bastard is stuck by the filler neck, catching on the exhaust. Rear exhaust has to come off. Front has to come off to get rear off, I kid you not, the bugger is now in pieces on the garage floor. At least it is justified because the sender unit is goosed (zero resistance at any setting, and it's a non serviceable pressed together unit) so I need a sender from That America. Also the exhaust has a water hole in the lower most bend which will need a quick weld ( I think this old girl has only done five minute journeys for its last few years). Now I want to use this car as much as I possibly can, so I'm going to have to stitch it back together and repeat the process once i locate and receive a new sender :-( Oh, and another thing, the bloody float ( which didn't) fell in to the tank when I pulled the sender out so now it will rattle about for eternity.....the joys

I can get one from a Buick parts site which after I registered immediately rejected my password, so effectively, no I can't! The others for the same fisher body cars (caddy, Pontiac etc) are slightly different in that they will fit but the fuel pickup is way different for some reason. I'll modify one if I have to, though.

Check your emails, you may have to activate your account before you password works
You didnt put "cadillac" as your password did you, the yanks probably have that in the swear filter on a buick site.

Lol! No, and the email password reminder didn't work either. Shit yanks and their shit websites. I'll call tomorrow but they're just as bad on the phone, too, by and large.

Oh yes, but I'm still a long way from ordering any clubs, I'd have to be WAY desperate for that

All back together, managed to break into the sender and repair the wiper and contact. New cork float and it's operational with the correct resistance. Sadly still no working fuel gauge, my guess now is an interrupted wire somewhere. At least the mucky end is definitely good now.

If you earth the cable from the fuel gauge, it should move to 'full' - if it does the gauge and wiring are okay.
