So as most of you know I bought this old ex Naval jeep. It's a 1946 CJ2A was a civilian model bought new from the dealership in Hawaii by the US Navy in a kind of trade stimulus program immediately after the war. Apparently quite a few vehicles were purchased this way by the military. It was used on the Ford Island landing strip at Pearl Harbour for a period of time and then sold off. It's only had low ownership since and ended up at centennial airport in Denver, Colorado as a tug, pulling vintage warbirds around a hangar. I bought it from the next guy who used it as a hobby toy for the last eight or ten years. It's not a restored car as such but its a bit like triggers broom, its had loads of repair and the odd panel replacement over the years, but you can still see the original civvy blue colour under the navy grey paint in places, and it retains its original military dash plaques with all the correct identification. So, it came in from Colorado and I picked it up last week. The guys in the warehouse had clearly not found the starter button ( up on the bulkhead above the accelerator pedal, foot operated) and although they would not admit it they had destroyed the starter motor trying to Hotwire it. So one new starter and £275 later, its a goer at last. What a great little car. It is definitely the quickest starting car I've ever owned, and ticks over like a Swiss watch. Mechanically it's spot on, and the body is good enough to enjoy without being too nice. I brought it in with a mind to sell it on, but its just such bloody good fun, it might be staying. Some pics to follow

Harvey's sleepover pals going for a spin. Plus julie having a go and a pic from when we collected ( note when collected, all lettering was vinyl, I've corrected this with stencilled lettering now as on the first pics)

What an excellent bit of kit, If you've had time to play with the starter and the lettering, have you remembered to check the wheel nuts are tight? Cheers Marcus

Yes, I gave it a very solid going over before I drove it. Brakes are pulling right, bit of fluid weeping out of the front left drum, yuck! Also speedo not working, handbrake disconnected. But it came with lots of spares including a set of wheel cylinders and shoes, speedo and handbrake cables.

That's a coincidence, bomber! I once had a weird one where I owned a Citroen DS for several years which had spent the first ten years of its life as an occasional car at the first owners second home, a villa in Portugal. I bought it from his best friend, the second owner. When I sold it, it went to a Scottish guy to use as an occasional car; at his second home, a villa in Portugal! It ended up less than five miles from where it started!
