You are right about no helmet, I never wear one but generally make the lad put one on, he slipped through the net here by following me out. It's of uncertain ancestry; The headstock and forks are old, the main tube, rear stay and wheels are more modern. I think it was put together in the fifties or sixties. I bought it at a Bonhams classic car auction last year in a bit of a state and rebuilt it. I know a guy with a very very nice original Rudge who has turned down 5 grand for his. Mine is probably worth around a grand if the odd replica going through eBay is anything to go by. The front tyre cost £130 so bits aren't cheap! If you come over I'll give you a lesson, it's a bit of an art to be honest. Getting up is tricky, riding is medium to tricky and getting off is a t*** until you get the hang of it. I bought a baby one to learn on but it's not the same because you can put your foot down. My wife has video evidence of how steep the learning curve is....

Seems a long way to fall, but i doubt it's gonna hurt as much as hitting a moving Escort head on at sixty on a Kawasaki...
I reckon there was lots of beer/laudanum involved in Victorian transportation.
