I like the challange of doing something thats out of your normal box. Also the look on peoples faces when you tell them what your doing without any professional help. Set the task, work out the solution without spending lots of dosh, get a satisfactory result.

Not updated this for a while but hopefully progress is gonna be fast and furious over the next few months. I've slowly been working on the steel frame for the building, but today was quite a task. First job was to put two of the RSJ's that are going to hold the upper floor up onto the ramp ready for welding the end plates on, these RSJ's are huge and weigh about 1ton each and are 6m in length. Unfortunately for me, my MIG welder isn't big enough to weld the 10mm plates to the RSJ's, so I enlisted the help of a friend. He did offer me the use of his MIG welder but I felt like I would be taking the piss and asked Martin to come and weld the plates on for me, so that I could pay him for his time and welder... I've had all the plates cut out by a local firm with a Laser cutter, this means they will all be the same and takes the headache out of trying to drill 20mm holes in very thick plate, all in the same place. We ran out of time and had to put the RSJ's back outside. On Monday we will weld the last flat plate onto the gusset piece and hopefully an erection party will be taking place over Easter.... Cheers Marcus

Is that part of a new bridge for the Humber? I suppose it won't bend when you stick some engine lifting chains on there. Good work son!!
What do I spy in the background covered in a plastic sheet with some 5 spoke mag wheels..mmmmm

Unfortunately Charlie building regs have got involved and I had to enlist a structural engineer to keep them happy. But I did specify to him that I would need to be able to put a small car upstairs for storage. The specifications came back and he's rated it at half a ton per square meter. Now we all know they build in a safety margin of around two/two and half times the specified amount. So I'm going to have no problem's with storage upstairs.
Bomber the car under the plastic sheet is Simon's, we have nearly finished it but unfortunately this last week or two its not had a lot of progress due to the steel frame construction...
Cheers Marcus
